Ryo's Hometown .. Kitakyushu

Hometown: KITAKYUSHU (Kitakyuushuu)

Location: region Kyushu, south ireland of Japan, prefecture Fukuoka (north)





KitaKyushu (translated north Kyushu) is where our mysterious Ryo lives. We know that for a fact, because Kyushu is mentioned in Digimon Tamers and we know that he lives in northern part of the ireland, KITAKyushu, because Henry asked him, when he's going back home to north Kyushu (in Digimon Original Story Special ~with~ (read it here)). And this 'north' thingy doesn't only mean the north of the ireland, it means the city in the north that's actually called North Kyushu (kita = north).

We don't really know anything else about Ryo's life there (or do we?! -> email me!). We know that he has a father, is pretty famous (remember the episode when some random reporters tried to interview them while he was getting in his father's car?), that his father drives a blue car and that occasionly Ryo comes to Tokyo to play cards on tournaments. That's all I can think of TAMERS Ryo but there are a few things from the WONDERSWAN games too!

Ryo's hometown is also shown in the first WonderSwan game Anode/Cathode Tamer (which takes place in december 1999). We don't get to know if WonderSwan's Ryo also lives in Kyushu (since he's such a mysterious character, who changed dimensions at least one time, it's possible, that this isn't the same location). However, we get a few information about his life. He lives in a two-story house with his parents (father AND mother, whose faces we can't see in the game). It doesn't look like he has any siblings or pets and for christmas 1999 his father promised him a new computer.

So it looks like Ryo's parents are well off - not just because of the new computer, they also live in this big house and his father seems to be some kind of a businessman (he's shown wearing a suit) and his mother a housewife (wearing an apron). Ok so back to the game! First we see the city in the evening and then we get to see Ryo in his father's study room, which is full of books. Ryo is chatting (on his dad's laptop! wow ... I got my first computer in '99 and it was the old Windows 98 ~~ I didn't know they already had laptops in '99!) with people who're talking about the incident that happened in Odaiba in august. This is what they say:
TAKE: Hello! Chatting on New Year's Eve is cool, isn't it? Oh yeah, do you remember about the little incident in the summer? MAA-KUN: Yeah, I remember! When we had all those earthquakes, right? The town got really wrecked didn't it ...
UK: Yeah, I know! But that was really an earthquake? My dad said it was a terrorist attack!
TAKE: Yeah, I know. Some people even said that it was because of the Digimon!
UK: Really? Are you kidding me?
MAA-KUN: And, and, and, who said that? Are they nuts or something?
TAKE: What was their name again ... I think it was Taichi or something like that.

We don't know who these people are but Odaiba is not directly mentioned, that's why I think they're probably from there, at least from Tokyo. And since they all know what it's all about, Ryo probably knows it too. So either he lives in Tokyo, he is in a Digimon fanclub (he didn't recognise Agumon though ..) or the happening in Odaiba was just something known to everyone. If we look at the first picture, we can see a mountain in the background that could maybe be Fuji ... What do you think? I'd say that Wonderswan's Ryo lives in Tokyo. Tokyo IS the capital of Japan so why put the guy to Kyushu? XD

So while chatting, Ryo's computer suddenly goes blank and Agumon appears on it. Then a Digivice is sent to Ryo and he's transported to the DigiWorld where he meets with Agumon to help him save Tai and co. In the end he comes back home and his parents are shown for the first time. Well, we can at least see their clothes ... (Thanks to yesterday for the two pics! I still didn't finish the game but when I do (if I do XD), I'll make my own screenshots!)
